The One Practice that Changed so Much
I remember a day I was running late for a meeting, and the twins walked back into the house because they’d missed the bus. I may have screamed inside – maybe it was out loud. I could not believe my bad fortune. It wasn’t even 9 AM, and I felt like the day was in a downward spiral. My mood was sour; I was snippy, anxious, and on my own nerves. I was sure the day couldn’t get worse but in the meantime I let my mind indulge in a cornucopia of negative thoughts like a low vibration parade – “what if my presentation didn’t go well, what if my boss didn’t approve my vacation request…Oh gosh, I have nothing to make for dinner and no ideas are coming to me that everyone likes… I have nothing to wear for an upcoming event and I think I waited too long for online orders to get here in time…. Waaaa, waaaa, waaaa”
Just typing that gives me that “stomach in knots” feeling. Have you ever had days like this? Days you think maybe you should just crawl back into bed and try again tomorrow?
If you can relate, I have to tell you about a practice that changed so much in how I show up as a mom, business leader and woman👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼
When something negative happens, I say to myself or to our family:
🗣This is good because…”
and then I identify a reason it benefits us / me.
I say it even when I’m reaching so deep to try to find how this could possibly be good.
The overflowing toilet 🚽 …
This is good because I needed to replace that bath mat anyway and I’m going to buy a really pretty padded one I saw. 🙌🏽
The burned breakfast 🥞 …
This is good because I have a gift card to a local breakfast place and we can support people we know. 🙌🏽
The kids all screaming at once 😵💫…
This is good because they’re happy and home; someday, I’m going to long for these days. 🙌🏽
A big business goal missed by just a small amount …
This is good because now we have time to evaluate how we can get better, make adjustments, and catapult to a brand new level.
Your perspective can change your day and, frankly, your whole life.
This is GOOD because….🙌🏽
In the above examples, you are not only creating a new response pathway in your brain, but you are also planting seeds of joy in yourself and in others. More than anything, you’re expressing GRATITUDE for every experience. Have you ever heard the expression, “Gratitude is a magnet for miracles?” Friend, it’s true. This kind of mindset is a MAGNET for miracles, opportunity and green lights. The way we see the world changes when we actively decide that nothing is happening to us; instead, it is happening FOR US. The world is conspiring to bless you. You are exactly where you are supposed to be. Remove the “good” or “bad” label from the occurrences in your life and start seeing them as opportunities, protection, provision and gratitude. Look for the good in every situation. We are so blessed in this life. This is good because …
